Reloading Primer Issue

I've got about 15 pieces of 9mm brass that have been once fired, when I resized them the die punched the bottom of the primer out but left the outer rim of the primer stuck in the primer pocket. These cases were part of a larger batch that all had crimped in primers but they punched out fine.

Anyone come across this before and have a way of dealing with it? I'm gonna try drilling the leftover primer rim out. I don't really need the brass but I'm one of those guys that likes tinkering when I find a problem

So I did some research and it turns out these are referred to as ringers.

I ended up grinding them out with a primer pocket uniformer in a hand drill.

It wasn't really worth my time in the end but maybe if you have brass for a rare calibre that this happens to you can use the same method to fix it.

So you'd used the primer pocket uniformer before hand and they still stuck?

Or you got that now to stop it happening again by uniforming pockets first?

I got the primer pocket uniformer to smooth out the pockets on my 308 brass but it just happened to have a small primer pocket reamer come with it too.

Apparently the condition is caused by the primers being exposed to moisture and corroding into the primer pocket so uniforming won't stop it happening but it removed the leftover primer ring easily enough

Was it factory ammo or hand loads with new empty brass?

How long had you had it that the primers were corroded into the pocket?

It was once fired brass my brother in law bought in the US in the early 90's so most likely random range pick up. Could have gone through anything plus been sitting in a bag for two decades

Nah I'm loading nickel for the 357 not the 9mm

I retract my comments about nickel then
