Split 22lr necks

Hi guys,

I found a couple of cases off the floor at the range of 22lr cases with split necks.

I assumed (wrongly ) this was only a concern for reloading brass multiple times as it wears out but that obviously ain't so.

If 22lr case necks are splitting does it mean anything for your rifle or is it just cheap brass to be disposed of?

Got a feeling I saw this yrs ago. The 22lr had been fired out of a 22 mag chamber. Other wise sounds like the chamber is over size.But I could be wrong.

Definitely a chamber problem.....get it checked out,, ,no big deal....what sort of .22lr ???? and any idea how many rounds its had through it.???

Could also be very old ammo that the brass has age hardened or started to corrode.

Not fired by me or a rifle I know.

Yep see heaps on the ground at the range, maybe the cheap stuff dont like being stood on

Well, it is possible to reload for 22lr but 99.9% of shooters don't, you weren't completely off.

Odds are it's factory. Given that could be a wrong chamber, some damage, bolt or headspace issue causing a problem, weak case could have been caught on something on extraction.
