Substituting bullets with same SD/BC for same results?

Post by chicachicka » 21 Oct 2013, 2:16 pm

Hi,

Question for the reloading pros - Obviously swapping the bullet in a load will change the accuracy of a particular load/cartridge.

What about swapping the bullet for one with nearly the same specs though...

e.g. Nosler Accubond and Ballistic tips in 150gr for .308 have these specs.

Accubond - SD 0.226, BC 0.435 OAL 1.230

BT Hunting - SD 0.226, BC 0.435 OAL 1.280

Same everything except for 0.05" longer on the BT.

In theory, if you had and accurate cartridge worked up with Accubond bullets, could you swap to BT and get the same results? Or could it still change significantly?

Thanks.

No, sorry.

Be nice if it would work that way, but it doen't.

I mean you might jag one that's close, but not likely to be right on the money.

If you've got a projectile that shoots well and does the job, buy a heap.

If they were close enough to get the same result you'd be shooting virtually the same bullet.

No point in that obviously...

Minor changes go a long way.

Between 165gr and 168gr ballistic tips with the same powder loads and I got a noticeable difference in grouping.

Thought I might be pushing my luck a bit with this, never hurts to ask though :D

I've been using the BT's for a while now which are working good, I put off trying the Accubonds as I wasn't keen to do a whole set of load development again, but the BT's are working well anyway so I think I can give it a miss.

Cheers.
