Reloading Dies Online?

Post by Gwion » 07 Aug 2015, 2:14 pm

Hi all.

Just bought some powder, primers and 120gn bullets and now need some dies. LGS didn't have any in 7mm-08. Came home and searching searching searching for places in Australia with 7mm-08 dies for sale online. No luck so far!

BRT... nope
HSS..... nope
Magnum... nope

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Ebay. Specifically "Midway". Never had a problem with them.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

eBay has 2 sets - Search 7mm-08. There's a set from MidwayAus for $220 for the Redding neck bush 3 die set or a set of Hornady for $55. I have a few dies from Redding and like them but never used Hornady so can't comment.

Apollo's probably the best one to answer that question. I'd be measuring the outside neck diameter of a spent case and getting a few collars starting a couple thou smaller. Exactly how many thou you'd have to youtube or google. There's 2 parts to it though, have the neck as close as possible to the chamber dimensions whist also having enough tension to hold the projectile for pressure to build. Neck tension is a science of its own that I'm still coming to grips with.
If you decide on the Redding dies, don't buy them until we have a talk. The owner of midwayaus is a friend of mine and lives maybe 10 mins from my place so I might be able to get you some discount.

I was keen until i saw titanium bushings for $50 a pop!

New Norma cases i have are:
Int diam: .278 (6 thou of 'grab')
Ext diam: .308
Neck wall: .0145 (or there about's, pretty even)

Once fired Winchester:
Int: .285
Ext: .316
NW: .015 (uneven 13 thou one side, 16 thou the other)

I figure get a .308 bushing for to suit the Norma, then if i end up turning the neck by around a thou i'll have 4 thou of "grab and even neck tension. Later, i can get a smaller bushing if needed.

I'm looking at Brownelle's and the same die set is $107US, the Match version (with micro seater) is $184US.

EDIT: Also steel bushings for $16US

If you buy the Forster kits they come with 3 bushings. I use them for a few cals. They are a lot cheaper if you buy from Sinclair in the U.S. Than local.

Yes mate, I'm a firm believer in the Lee Collet die for neck sizing. Once you get it adjusted right it works well and doesn't over work the brass. Sometimes it's a good idea to pull it apart and give the collet a bit of a lapping with some fine grit emery and then put a thin film of light grease on it. There's plenty on info on the web.

Thanks JD. Seems like an easy way to control neck tension a bit more with out having to go too nuts with gear and exxy dies.

You could always look at a a basic neck turner as well.

They're about $130 bucks. e.g. http://www.hss.net.au/product_info.php? ... 42f650725b

HSS aren't the only guys that do them either. About the same as a pricey 3pce die set, but a simple (quality) turn and a collet die will give you about the best neck you'll get and doesn't cost a fortune.
