Wrong seating die height, did I muck something up

Post by scrolllock » 01 Nov 2013, 12:08 pm

Hi guys,

Hoping someone can confirm for me that I haven' t mucked something up on a batch of ammo.

When setting up my seating die I put an empty case in the shell holder, ran the level of the press full stroke to raise the shell, and screwed the die down to touch it. After touching I turned the die back a full turn as I'm supposed to.

I realised after I did this with a brass that wasn't trimmed, so the die was about 2mm higher than supposed to me?

Everything seated properly as best I can tell, and the COAL is right.

I hope everything's right?

The reason you lift the die again after is just so it doesn't crimp the brass.

Were you trying to crimp?

Yeah it's not an issue, some guys only partially FLS anyway, so as to not continually work the full length of the case.
Most reloaders that I know, only neck size, so as to keep a uniform, fireform.
Trim when necessary.

No not crimping the brass. Just seating flat sided bullet as usual.

Yep, I separate brass into groups to keep track of this but just dropped the ball this time around.

Good to hear all is well with the loads.
