Hodgdon LVR

Post by Wm.Traynor » 10 Jan 2016, 8:13 am

I don't seem to be able to find a price for this on the web sites of the gunshops so I don't know how it compares with 2206H. Anyone bought some recently?

Hodgdon's published data for it gives a maximum velocity, in the 30/30, that is only 100 fps faster than 2206H. Is LVR really worth using?

Last powder I bought was 06h, it loads everything well

LVR is a spherical powder, and similar in performance to 2209(extruded) apparently, I see the increase in velocity is at an extra 20%load, or thereabouts. with increase in pressure as well.

If you need the extra range, slightly increased MPBR,then it might be worthwhile.... if its available locally of course.

otherwise.... its just marketing. :unknown:

Question is, do you need the 100 extra fps.

We're talking about the 30-30 here after all, a mid-range hunting cartridge. Not a 1,000 yard benchrest setup.

Mr Bacon isn't going to notice the bullet travelling 100fps slower is he.

Assuming you're using the 30/30 for hunting at short - mid ranges like it's intended and extra 100fps isn't going to much much (if anything).

It will shoot marginally flatter which is nice, but hardly a deal breaker.

Or if he does he's not going to be in the kind of mood that you'll want to walk up and ask him about it
