Converting 2208 loads to 2209 and 2206H

Post by RealNick » 22 Jan 2016, 8:17 pm

Hi guys,

I've got a .308 load which is great with 2208.

Separately have some 2209 and 2206H from other stuff that's no longer used.

I want to put the powder to some use, just not to waste it, but there is no point doing proper load testing because I wouldn't buy either of the powders again as the .308 load is perfectly fine with 2208 and I'm sticking with that.

Rather then just load a batch of whatever and get ??? results, is there a rough formula of sorts that goes along the lines of

43gr 2208 = 42.3gr 2209
and
43gr 2208 = 44.1gr 2206H

Those numbers are made up, just an example, but asking the question in the hope of guestimating a reasonably accurate load with the two powders based on what I know works with 2208 rather than just load for pot luck.

No.

Different powders within a manufacturers range are different, period.
Different combinations of a number of particular compound, about a dozen or so, giving slightly different properties.
Theres no reason why you couldnt pic a load within the ADI range from min to max (yes, yes, start from min....)

Different combination give different properties such as deflagration rate (burn rate) slow or fast powders, different amounts of 'smoke', lend to cleaner burns or not... also change the way the pressure increases inside the chamber and barrel, considering that, the 2209 is not optimal for the small 308 chamber, hence ADI do not suggest loads for it....

Better to put an add in the classifieds to swap the 2209 and 2206h for a similar weight in your preferred 2208.
