Mobile Reloading

Post by p3seven » 03 Feb 2016, 11:20 am

I House/Farm Sit for a "living" and when not doing that I live in a caravan wherever the mood takes me. I have begun shooting in quantities that, if I had a permanent address (my rifles have a permanent address and a lovely safe to live in), I would be investing in some reloading equipment.

Due to my transient lifestyle. Can anyone suggest a source for a set of portable equipment that one could use when on the move?

I would be reloading 243 W and maybe later 30-06

Thanks

Contact BRT Shooters Supply in Brisbane.

http://brtshooterssupply.com.au/brands/ ... hings.html

KM Arbor Press and Wilson Inline Dies and you can reload anywhere at any time. The only thing you can't do is Full Length Resize a case but really any reloading press can be clamped to a solid surface to be useable with medium to small cases. Very large cases might require something more solid due to the amount of force required. You don't need to FLS all that often if cases are only used in the same firearm.

I use the above for all my reloading, be it at home, out in the paddock or at a shooting range.

This one of the most precise precision reloading methods goin around and not all that expensive.

You will get some very friendly and expert advice from Stuart & Annie at BRT.

I bought a Harrell compare reloading press a while back for the simple reason that although I use an arbor press for some cartridges there are others I reload for that I have traditional dies for and you can F/L resize on it although I haven't tried as I mainly use it for seating bullets when load testing at the range

PS: I also have one of their powder throwers and it's the best thrower I've ever seen.

How about mount the press on a square of thick timber, then you carry that and some clamps, clamp the timber to a bench at the location.

Why wouldn't you be able to full-length size them? Or on what press couldn't you?

I don't understand the comment.

Looks like it would be a work out filling a few boxes with one of those things.

Skip triceps at the gym after doing some reloading

Yep, Lee Hand Press is mint. Never tried to full length size anything with it though.

I still have my old .222 Rem. Lee Loader I got when I was seventeen. Built many thousands of rounds with it. I preferred to use a small vice most of the time rather than hammering.

One of these http://leeprecision.com/breech-lock-hand-press.html (Hard work) OR

http://leeprecision.com/reloading-kits/ ... der-rifle/ (cheapest option & hard work & a hammer required) OR

http://leeprecision.com/50th-anniversar ... r-kit.html (or similar) (about $230) Just add dies. Just make a bracket and clamp it to the rear bumper bar of the van. Do the weighing & cleaning inside the van.

Personally, I hate carrying a vehicle around in the bush.

I'm just getting into muzzle loading so I've ordered some small plastic vials so I can pre-weigh charges and carry them with me to save messing about with powder transfer and measuring in the field. Easy enough to do the same with smokeless. I've ordered ten of each of a few different types and sizes for now, once I decide which works best I'll order more.

Years ago I had a Lee progressive press (didn't have the money to buy the better stuff as I was also buying guns) as I had a job that allowed me to spend most arvos at the range, blasting away. This was pistols. I'd easily shoot 2000 rounds per week.

Ànyways, I was living in a unit and couldn't organise a big timber bench (no room), so, came up with an idea.

Had a T shaped piece of timber that a mate got wrapped in steel. Placed that into a folding saw horse and tightened up the handles and it worked fine. The only issue I had was the small chain on the power thrower. Fixed that.

I was able to load a heap of 9mm, .357 mag and .45 (when limits weren't in place).

Progressive press might be a good option. Everything you need in one spot. Just pull the handle.

The Lee Reloading kit is good value for money. Just set one up for a mate on a piece of 200 x 40 timber about 500 long. Press at one end, powder thrower at the other. A decent 4 inch G-clamp holds it solid on any bench/ table.

I'm a big fan of lee loaders.
If you get the right size powder dipper and practice using the dipper with some scales you can dip some reasonably accurate powder chargers.
Or just pack the scales.

A press mounted on a solid bit of timber with some G clamps to hold it in place should be portable enough setup that can be used pretty much anywhere, Or a press mounted on one of those Triton Work Mate benches would be ok too I'd imagine.

I started with a Lee Hand Press before I committed to a bench and regular press. It worked fine.
