Necking up .243 and 7mm-08 brass to .308

Post by keen » 08 Nov 2013, 10:27 am

I shoot a .308 and have just picked up a tonne of once or twice fired .243 and 7mm-08 brass which I'd like to size up.

Obviously there is only so much brass in a case and you can only stretch it so far...

The 7mm-08 brass is fine obviously, but will I be pushing it with the .243?

Cheers.

Forgot to say it's mostly Federal Premium factory brass which is all once fired.

A bit of Winchester brass which has been shot 2-3 times maybe.

Cheers again.

You can.

Like you said though, there is only so much brass in one neck.

Neck wall thickness can be an issue.

You won't be able to go from .243 to .308 in one leap either, otherwise you'll split most of your necks.

Something like 6.5mm > 7mm > .308 would be the trick.

How much brass are we talking?

For the price of the sizing dies and your time you could just buy 150-200 brand new brass and be done with it...

If it were me i'd concider doing a trade with someone who has .308 brass who wants .243 brass.

This.

For the 7mm-08 brass fair enough to neck it up as you can do it in one step, but for all the effort and dies to do it from the .243 brass, forget it.
Thin out their numbers, Ned!

Mmm, thin out their numbers!
