Plenty of youtube vids, but after searching enoughgun i cant see it being a topic of discussion in the past?

I have been using 90w gear box oil for yonks. Nice and thick like some of the over the counter products available. Never had a case stick if it was lubed. But I only load a fraction of what most shooters load.

bought some lanoline and a bottle of good isopropyl (not watered down "rubbing alcohol) years ago, made up a batch. had 2 out of 5 cases stick and threw the lot in the bin and bought a tub of redding imperial sizing wax. never had a stuck case since except for when i tried the hornady one shot on some .204R brass, went back to the redding wax. the little tub i bought 3-4 years ago still looks full, you use bugger all

nice one Chronus, do you just dip the case mouth or roll it on a pad?
Looks like its pretty reasonably priced stuff (compared to the one shot case lube i've been using!)

gearbox oil? r u serious? i thought that would have been too thick?
p.s. not enough experience here, so maybe i'm just not thinking this option through enough.

Mate with the wax I just dip one finger onto it and rub my index finger and thumb together. Then I just rub the case between my fingers (not the neck) and size. After 4-5 cases I only do every second case and I do wipe the neck every 10 or so including a quick wipe over the case mouth. This lightly lives the sizing button.

One of the first lubes I saw was a very thick oil, probably even thicker than gear box oil. Figured I would try it and it works. Been using it ever since. . What else can I say. I think a lot of what u read about lube is mainly marketing BS. You could perhaps try bearing grease. Bit tricky to apply though. Lol
PS. If you think it is too thick try 30w engine oil. :D

Yes, i agree oldbloke.
Most products for most hobbies are 95% marketing and 5% solution these days!! (Sure i know thats a Gross generalisation but its born out of frustration by what we have to pay these days!!!)
Hence my desire to "get back to basics" - not just for shooting, but other stuff as well.
Nothing annoys me more than knowing most of my payment goes to greedy bottom liners and marketers...
Rant over...

I use a selection of lubes...
Dillon Spray which is lanoline / isopropyl alcohol for pistol brass put through the Dillon press
KY on a pad for regular rifle brass
Redding Imperial sizing wax for the big cases or when reforming.

KY can be found almost anywhere and if you're up Oxford St you can buy the 5L pump packs :)

G'day petemacsydney,
I use the lanolin/alcohol mix as a spray on, then a quick rub through the cases. Have loaded more than 2000 rifle and 4000 pistol brass without any problems at all, using Lee, RCBS, Hornady and Redding dies. You may need to play around with the ratio a bit, but it works well once you have it. I have spray lubed cases and put them aside for weeks, then loaded without another lube, again, no probs. Worth a try, Cheers.

PS: In case you were curious, commercial cartridge case manufacturers use emulsions of soluble oil, such as engineering cutting oils, neatsfoot oil etc when drawing and shaping brass. Such oils are readily available from any engineering supply outlets, Cheers.

Provided you source anhydrous lanolin (anh-lanolin/grease), anhydrous iso-propyl alcohol (IPA99 or 100%) is will fully go into solution, try a 1:10 ratio add more or less sheep juice as required....

Most of the lanolin is already in solution, if not IPA, the solvent wont evaporate fully/quickly...

Steve, you didnt use the lanolin from the beauty counter at the pharmacist did you?? :)

Arriving late to this thread..

I use lanolin wax/grease (not lanolin oil) and 100% isopropyl alcohol mixed 1:12.

It does the trick for me.
