Lee Pro 1000 modification

Post by Hollywood » 14 Jul 2016, 6:54 pm

So most people seem to have heard of the primer feed issues on the Lee Pro 1000, YouTube is full of tips on how to try and fix the issue. I followed one blokes suggestion and took it a little further............ it was a quiet day!

I wired up a little button vibrator and stuck it on the primer feed tube. Works a treat, with it switched on the primers almost look like they're being forced down the feed tube rather then just falling.
Image

I bought the vibrators on eBay (See how you go searching for those!) and got 10 for about $10 delivered from China!
Image

I then made up a couple of small brackets, one to mount a microswitch to and another to mount a small LED to. The LED shines onto the stage where you put the projectile in to ensure I can see the powder charge.

The microswitch is connected to a digital LED counter to record the rounds made. It's triggered each time the lower plate rises up.
Image

The LED, the vibrator and the counter are all wired into a small control box that is powered by an adjustable power supply. I bought the box and one of the switches from Jaycar and the rest of the gear I had lying around, hence all the different switch types. In this setup I'm using about 5.5v.

Yes, yes, it's a bit gimmicky but as I said, it was a quiet day!

Wow. Good effort. And to think all I ever did was put a tiny bit of powdered graphite in the primer tray every time I loaded it

Awesome work, would you consider building a couple of smaller versions with just the round counter?

I have been looking to buy something on eBay, but it doesn't have the -1 feature which I think is a good idea.

This is what you need mate...

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121662835569

It comes with a wiring loom and diagram that shows you what to put where and will run on 5 - 28v.

The adjustable power supply, box, microswitch, two momentary switches (one for the reset and one for the subtract function) and any wiring you'll need can all be found at Jaycar and cost bugger all. I used a piece of thick aluminium angle to make the little bracket for the microswitch and, after drilling some small holes, I then used steel screws to cut a thread into the holes to mount the microswitch. The angle and screws came from Bunnings.

If you got really stuck I suppose I could knock one up for you but I work a FIFO roster so won't be home for a few weeks. Have a crack at it mate, it's a piece of pi$$!

This is the box I used - http://www.jaycar.com.au/jiffy-box-black-158-x-95-x-53mm/p/HB6011
Image

This link will take you to the momentary switches at Jaycar, there's a bunch to choose from. You'll need two switches, one for the reset button and one for the subtract button which lowers the count by one each time you press it - http://www.jaycar.com.au/search/?q=momentary+switch%3Arelevance&page=0

This is the microswitch to trigger the counter - http://www.jaycar.com.au/spdt-microswitch-1/p/SM1040
Image

This is the plug I used to connect the microswitch to the box (You could also hard wire it into the box) - http://www.jaycar.com.au/2-5mm-dc-metal-line-plug/p/PP0532
Image

And the socket for the plug (Get two as you'll need a socket for the power supply also) - http://www.jaycar.com.au/Interconnect/Plugs,-Sockets-&-Adaptors/DC-Power/2-5mm-Bulkhead-Male-DC-Power-Connector/p/PS0524

You'll need some wire too obviously.

This link will take you to the multi voltage power supplies on eBay however Jaycar has them in stock too - http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.Xmulti+voltage+power+adaptor.TRS0&_nkw=multi+voltage+power+adaptor&_sacat=0

Get out your soldering iron and have at it!

Thanks for the link Hollywood, I've ordered 2 of the counters. Once they arrive I'll get them fitted up to the Dillon's and report back with some pictures etc. Good work mate, much appreciated :)
