Anyone got a recipe for 130gr TTSX barnes over 748 winchester? (308w with 22" barrel)

I've no experience with winchester 748 but I have been loading 135gr Sierra 2124 projectiles over 48.5gr of ADI 2208 in remmington brass OAL 2.635", last group I shot had 4 shots touching, I've found ADI 2208 to be a great powder for the .308.

I think this load is close to max, so would be wise to work up to it.

I load for my howa sporter .308, 24" barrel.

No recipe but it ought to be a good combo. 748 produced good accuracy for me when I was using it in the 308.

Are you using a chrono to work up? 3100+fps should be reachable I'd think.

I am using Ar2206h under the 130g Hornady SP for 3100fps out of a 22.5" bbl. 748 isn't a vastly different burn rate.

Post your results!

Well I have put some rounds together.
49.7 of 748w @ 2.810" barnes ttsx 130gr
And for s**ts and giggles
47.9 of 748w @2.760 nosler ballistic tips 125gr

Not sure why they suggested such a difference between the rounds, there's only 5gr difference between them.

I'll try to get to the range during the week.

Just above minimum load.
Damn happy considering I'm only using a 2-7x33 Leupold Ultimate. The circle/ring reticle is excellent, equals a 4" circle at 100m. Perfect for deer.
Rifle is a sub-3kg Browning A-bolt Composite hunter.

Assume the pic is the Barnes?

Had any opportunity to chrono the loads?

Looks like a nice combo if you can produce that accuracy reliably.

Hi again,
Just got back from my 3 day hunt.
I managed to drop my first sambar deer with a single 130gr TTSX (minimum load!) . The projectile completely past through, destroying the slate like ribs on both sides, penetrating over a 20 inches of muscle and bone!
The deer covered 60m before expiring. Only problem, hiking out the all the venison and it's head for my trophy wall in the shed!
Awesome projectile for 308w!

I just bought a 308 Tickler T3x Fluted Hunter, hopefully it shoots well too - mines mainly for pigs and dogs etc but if a deer is willing to stand still for me it too will be hitting the deck :D

Hey bigfellascott, I tried a heap of different factory ammunition and handload in my rifle, it was really fussy about what it was fed. Some cheap softpoint rounds were lucky to land within a 3 inch circle. In saying that though, my howa 243w loved barnes ttsx rounds too.

Cheers Justin, I've been told the 130gn Feds go well in the Tickler so will give those a run and see what happens, I eventually will reload I guess but for now if I can find a factory load that shoots well enough I will happily use it (I won't be shooting high volume so no great urgency to reload if factory ammo shoots well.

Cheers mate and enjoy the Browning - looks like it's getting the job done nicely already
