Most reloads you can get out of one brass

Post by paps » 13 Nov 2013, 8:19 am

Hi guys,

I'm sure this varies with calibres and loads, but as a rule of thumb what's the most you can typically reload 1 brass?

I know some guys reload to a certain number and replace the brass as routine. 10 reloads and replace it or whatever...

Is this usually because things start to go south around the 10 mark? Or just getting ahead of any potential problems.

Cheers.

You're right, it depends entirely on your load.

Could be 10, could be 20, 30...

More if you anneal your brass, less if you don't.

Too many factors...

Annealing is tricky...

Just as many people seem to muck up their brass as they do extend its life.

It's not a fixed rule, just a pre-emptive measure.

You could get well more than 10 though if you're not shooting hot loads.

In Cowboy action I use my brass till I see splits in the sides.

I have reloaded these over 10 times now in 44mag and she is still going strong

People have gotten 50+ reloads out of brass when it's taken care of.

All of the above.

I used to throw them until they cracked. Then I learnt to anneal them, no more cracking.

Look after the brass, keep pressures sane and then it is usually the primer pocket that fails first.

I think it was posted on here before but I couldn't find it (after a half assed search...)

Someone was on their 54th reload with annealing after every shot. Still getting F-Class out of them too.
