Which moulds to use for gas checks

Post by juststarting » 16 Sep 2016, 2:00 am

From what I understand, not all cast bullets can be fitted with gas checks. That depends on the shape of the projectile... However, I am finding it hard to understand from the mould if it's possible to seat a gas check on these or not.

This is the two I am looking at:

Any suggestions?

Neither of those are checked bullets.
It is sometimes possible to fit checks to plain-based bullets but it works better if you get checked bullet moulds.
This one is checked:

@bladeracer night owl ay :) Thank you. So from what I can see, if it didn't say anything - the way to know is a visual check - thinner at the bottom or bottom of the same diameter as lube groves? Would that be accurate?

I was loading up some .204 and 7mm-08 but I'm heading to bed now :-)

Yes, the base is narrower so the check can fit around the side.
Generally, a mould will specify if it is checked or not.
You can also run check-moulded bullets without checks.
