New Reloader

Post by dasko » 20 Nov 2016, 7:10 pm

hi All,
I am new to reloading, i have a setup of a lee progressive 5 stage press
benchmark 2
cci and Remington small riffle primmer
hornady v max
seiraa blitz kings
remington cases

Now i have not even set my press up yet as it doesn't arrive until Wednesday.

Just doing some extra recon to see what i can learn.

I just purchased a Tikka T3X Lite , i also have the xsight 2. I ran some osa 55gr buffalo's through and they wernt to bad over the 100. I tried some 64gr Winchesters ballistics and i have not hit the paper yet even at 25m in 20 rounds .....

if anyone is in a similar setup please let me know , also the barrel got so darn hot is the benchmark 2 a cooler powder?

thanks guys

Doesn't sound like the 64gn are stabilising.

:welcome: mate - your shooting a heap of groups using a light barrel, not designed for it, a varmint barrel is better suited for shooting groups, the light barrels are more for hunting where only 1 or 2 shots are fired in a row type thing, light barrels heat up quickly if you lob a heap of rounds down them and accuracy can be affected as a result of the heat, in future I'd say shoot 3 rounds max let the barrel cool down a bit then send another couple or better still don't worry about shooting groups just go hunting.

The powder won't make much diff temp wise in the end as to how hot the barrel gets, the amount of shots will determine that more so than the powder.

Sorry guys
Tikka t3x .223
vmax 55gr
blitz 55g
barrel 1/8 twist.

Ok i am use to using the 22lr at the range , you can pop those off all day.

So sighting in new ammo , suggested was 1 round every minute or 2 for cooling. i should have got a heavy barrel i guess :(

thankx

No, depends on the rifle's purpose. You would regret a heavy barrel if it was to carry around all day and only send off one or two shots.
