7mm RM Powders

Post by bones-350 » 25 Nov 2016, 8:56 am

I am wondering what ADI powder best suits the 7mm Rem Mag.
I have a 7mm R/M Ruger M77 24in barrel stainless rifle.
Even got a quality muzzle brake thinking it would help.
Factory ammo shoots about 1.5"-2" at best at 100yds.
If it continues to shoot like this after hand loads think I sell it.

looking on ADI website main used one is 2209 and 2217 but awhile back while i was at the range a young guy with a 7mm rem mag was having a hard time aswell with his reloads it was only shooting 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups at 200 yards and he had it in a AICS chassis even with a muzzle brake on it he took the brake off and it still shot average

AFAIC there is only 2 worth using with pills 150g and over , and they are 2217 and 2225 and yes i have had experience with both .

now don't take this the wrong way but are you a sub moa shooter with a medium power center fire rifle , plus a ruger hunting rifle

would not be my 1st choice in a light weight rifle if i was after accuracy .

Honestly 1.5" - 2" groups sound about right for a ruger hunting rifle, before you get too far with the load development I'd recommend properly bedding the action to the stock and get your trigger sorted if it has any sort of creep. My howa .308 struggled to get 1" groups with factory rounds, I changed the stock to a boyds laminate and bed it with PC-7 an kiwi shoe polish as a release agent, can now get three shots touching with hand loads, which I'm happy with for a sporter barrelled rifle.

Trigger has been done by gunsmith 2.5lbs pull and sitting in a Laminated Boyds stock and Nikon Monarch 3 mildot scope so it can't be the scope.

Thanks I am considering Trading it for 7mm RM Tikka TX3 Lite in stainless.
Wondering if that would be a better choice in rifle.

just don't expect long range groups out of a light weight barrel mate for a walk about hunting rifle 1 - 1.2 moa is fine

deer goat and pig are bid targets to hit .

I load
.100gr hollow points on 56gr of 2208 for roos and general hunting
,168gr target bullets on 64gr 2213sc for f class optical at the range
both are sierra and super accurate. The best shot I made with 100s was 270m prone on a benchrest while my buddy was pushing them down the hill to me.It was slightly up hill and I aimed at the base of its ear and was about an inch low.7mm rem mag is a bit to much gun for culling roos but sometimes I just do it cos I can,It has a 3.5-13 leopold and I am super confident in it.We get the odd pig and fox come out when we are ambushing and they can be 400m plus.I am not having a go with my .222 at that distance

Just looked up the ruger.24 inch barrel and 9,5 twist. It should shoot straight enough. When you say factory ammo do you mean PPU,I was given some 175 grain remington corelokt when I purchased the rifle and they group about 1.5-2.0.At 100 metres. The buffalo dont mind

PPU is decent, cheap 'normal range' hunting ammo.

Not much more though.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?
