I've found for hunting Sambar deer the 180 grain Winchester goes pretty damn good

Jw-15e .22
Winchester Model 37a 12ga
Beretta Silver pigeon pump action 12ga

Depends on what it's for. Different bullets for different tasks. Horses for courses and all that.

My go-to load is 165gr nosler bt in front of 44.0gr ar2206h. I don't shoot many bullets... I don't need to.

Now, if it were sambar, I would prolly go something like accubond, but I also like rem corelokts. But I've never had the opportunity to hunt sambar (or any deer - something I want to rectify. Oh, and buffalo. I want to try me some buffalo wings)

What rifle have you got?

150gr - 180gr should be good in any 30-06 Spring but depending on twist it might prefer a little lighter or heavier.

Yep, and as mentioned the target animal.
Sambar, 180 is very popular, 150 wou,d be ok for nearly everything else. But I use 180 for anything I shoot at. 1 load for everything. KISS

Taken most of the African stuff (Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Impala, Warthog, springbok) with the good old Speer Hot Core 180 grainers.

Totally satisfied with them.

Cool.

30-06 usually comes in 1:10 and 1:12.

1:12 is well suited to the mid range weights like 150gr - 165gr but can top out around 180gr depending on the bullet.

1:10 will let you go a bit heaver to 200gr, or maybe 220gr. It'll probably handle whatever you want really.....

The catch with handloads is they're different for every rifle. You know... if there was 1 bullet that shot best in everything we wouldn't have a forum because that's what we'd all be shooting  You've got to test a few in your rifle to see what works well for it.

With the faster of the two common twist options though I'd probably start with some 180gr bullets as they're likely to be a good bet and try a few loads.

There are heaps of options, that's true. Nothing to do but make a start though :)

Just pick a bullet or two from a good company and give it a go.

Sierra GameKing come in 165gr, 180gr and 200gr.

Nosler Ballistic Tip Hunting come in 165gr and 180gr.

Hornady SST come in 165gr and 180gr. Hornady Interlock come in the same.

All are quality bullets that can be very accurate in the right load. See what happens :)
