Dasco,

I've done a lot of load development for both field (on farm) and target (Field Rifle and Service Rifle competition) use for my Rem 700 SPS .223. 1 in 9 twist. 26 inch Barrel with about a 3400 round count.

I personally would not waste time with the z-max projectiles but I'd suggest the following:

Field loads to 300m and target loads for <200 m. Sierra Super Roo 55 gn (Gameking) projectiles over 24.5 gn Benchmark 8208, COAL 57.2 mm (5 thousandths off the lands for my rifle). I use ADI brass for all field loads, you won't get better for the price with very consistent case volume. CCI 400 primers are great but go for the CCI BR 4's if you can.

For target loads out to 600 (Service, Sniper and Field Rifle) I use 69 gn Sierra HPBT projectiles over 23 gn Benchmark 2, COAL 57.82 mm Lapua brass and CCI BR primers.

Both loads will shoot around 0.5 to 0.8 MOA in my rifle. I don't expect the 55 gn projectiles to perform as well as the 69 gn projectiles beyond about 200 m. The Sierra Super Roo Projectiles are awesome, however I do sort them by weight.

As always, make sure you start with low powder charge weights (visit the ADI webpage), determine your own COAL by finding the lands or using published SAAMI specs and work up from there. Remember that no two rifles are the same and load development is part of the fun.

Walt.

Nothing wrong with Z-max. I'm about to order another 500.
