I am confused you have a 7mm rem mag that will have at least a 24 inch barrel and you are getting a 308 with a 20 inch for the range which I would of thought would be a scrub gun for pigs.I have seen a bloke with a custom 26 inch barrel doing F class optical in .223 and he was doing O.K. but a bit under gunned at 800 Metres.A bolt action with a long barrel would be the best set up for the range

Please, could you educate me.

I am shooting a howa 308 ultralite. Loading 46grns 2208 under a 150grn hornady interlock, I have no idea how fast they are, if I do my part they group about 1.25inchs at a 100. Basically, anything that I shoot at dies, isn't that the objective? I have come to the conclusion that the ultralight isn't a target rifle, it's only for hunting, so why are most people so obsessed with speed and impossible accuracy from a rifle that isn't made for that specific purpose?
I should also add that the longest distant that I normally shoot is around 200 m

For hunting under 200 meters it doesn't make a difference but if your target shooting out past 500 you need to know your velocities for drop ect

Barrett your rifle and load are what I would call about optimal for hunting deer and pigs out to around 350 to 400y. Great combo of rifle and reloading components.

To take a stab I'd say you're getting MV around the 2700fps mark. Perfect.

You're right, for the majority of hunters it makes no practical difference at all.

You know your group size, you know the rough drop at a few distances... You got yourself a hunting rifle right there.

Some people just like to know because that's the way peoples brains work.
