If I had to choose one powder it would be AR2208, it is very versatile and suits many things well.

Yep, it's been a tried and true powder for many years.

Don't really know why you would use AR2206 as it is discontinued , pointless working up a load with something you cant buy anymore
and while AR2206H is similar it is not exactaly the same burning rate .

I thought they started replacing 2206 with 2206H 4-5 years ago now?

From ADI

AR2206H replaces AR2206
11 July 2007
Propellant AR2206H is finally set to replace AR2206 on the Australian & New Zealand reloading market. AR2206H is an improved variation of AR2206, and is designed to optimise heavy projectile performance where it increases projectile velocity while at the same time reduces chamber pressures. It is suitable for use in a similar range of calibres and powder loads as AR2206.

Get it takes more than a few years to empty existing supplies.

Geez, you wouldn't think it would take them six years to clear it out though...

They must have acres of warhouses of the stuff if people are still using it.

I'd imagine they do.

Surely they make tonnes of the stuff in each batch, more even maybe.

Imagine how much powder they're supplying in popular lines like AR2208 or AR2209.

It would be heeeeeeeeeeeeaps.

Pet load is a 55gr vmax over 26gr of 2206H win primer set 10 thou of the lands shoots under .5 for a 5 shot group at 100m in my kimber longmaster
Work up 1 grain of to start with for any pressure signs

I've never needed to use anything other than 8208. Works fantastically in the Tikka and the Remmie both. Even shoots sub moa groups in the 308!

I'd probably squeeze a few extra fps out using 2208 but since I don't have a chony what's the point?

In any case, there is no point in adding velocity just for the sake of it.

Unless you're shooting serious comps, if you've got a load that's accurate and does enough damage for hunting (if that's what you're using it for) leave well enough alone IMO.

Save yourself the headache :)

That's getting popular, hey? The Benchmark 2?

When it came out it seemed like no one could be bothered changing there loads.

Seems to be popping up more with a lot of guys.

Its good huh?

getting popular? when i bought my first rifle in 2009 i bought a .223 and asked around my rifle club and everyone was using BM2 with 55gr bullets then when i got my tikka varmint with 1:8" twist i started with 69gr bullets, again with BM2. the real drawback was it was only available in 500g bottles which made it more expensive per shot than the other ADI powders

Cals are 204, 222, and 22.250 - running 39bk in the 204, 50gn Projectile in the 222 (seems to shoot most of them well) and 55gn Sierra Super Roos in the 250 - all the barrels are the same length at 24".

204 @ 140m - load is 28.1gn of 2206H/7.5Rem Primer behind a 39gn Sierra Blitzking (that load is over the ADI Recommended) so don't assume it is ok in your rifle (safe so far in mine with no signs of pressure etc).
Image

222 @ 100m - load is 20.5gn of 2206H/CCI SR Primer behind a 50gn Projectile.
Image

22-250 @ 100m - 34.5gn of 2206H/CCI LR Primer behind a 55gn Sierra Super Roo Projectile
Image

Disclaimer:- none of the loads above are meant to be a recommendation for anyone else to use in their particular firearms, they are safe in my particular firearms and I would highly recommend starting from the min recommended in your particular reloading manual and working up carefully keeping an eye out for any potential pressure issues.

In the 223 Ruger (wife rifle) I think its running BM1 or BM2? can't remember now - shoots ok but no doubt I could get it shooting better with some load testing (I got the rifle 2nd hand off a mate (only had around 50rds down it) and came with around 200 handloads so still working our way through them before I start nutting out what it likes best.

I also have 8208 and the 204 shoots very well with that too (probably slightly better that with 2206H) but not enough diff for me to change until I use all the 2206H first.

There's lots of good powders out there, just a matter of trial and error to find what will work in ones particular outfit.

Cheers

Ha ha.

That seems to be a common trend here late. Ladies out-shooting their blokes.

Maybe they're all getting out and practicing without us so they can put us to shame
