.223 target loads

Post by Mitch@Ripley » 06 Jun 2017, 7:41 pm

Alrighty, so I've been reloading .223 remington for about 6 months, and have been trying to find a good load for my Weatherby Vanguard S2 (1:9 twist) primarily for target use. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Also, I was wondering if I should sell that and buy a Tikka t3x in either .223 or similarly economic caliber

What sort of results are you getting? How have you been doing load development?

Don't sell the Howa for a Tikka. There's just no advantage to it. Spend the extra cash on a new stock and a trigger job instead.

As above, what is your load development process?

I have found the Howa (weatherby) really likes 8208 powder. Try 23gr-25gr with a 55gr pill. I'm getting sub MOA with 25gr of 8208 and a 55gr vmax.

If buying factory you really can't go past buffalo river.

The best results based on size is .24 inches at 50 yds, however I did achieve .34 inches at 100. As for load development, I have started with the recommended starting loads up to the maximum with 3-5 loads between. I have everything on paper however I am working on creating an excel table for load data in theory and another for practical results.

Any recommendations on how to keep track of my loads?

Thanks, I'm having a similar dilemma with the rem 700 .308, it's too light and I can't decide whether to replace it or do it up lol.
