Another one made by ADI and distributed by Hodgdon but under the Canadian IMR Brand Name is Benchmark 8208 ..... IMR 8208XBR.

BM1 is not sold in the USA, it's all ours if you can find it...

And a bit of trivia that some may not know.

ADI do NOT do any load testing data at all, what is printed in their Reloading Manual is all data and tests supplied by Hodgdon USA from their facility. The only powder testing ADI do is for a sample of a new batch of powder manufactured to see if it complies with their standard variation from one batch to the next.

My friend was the Ballistician (retired recently) for ADI at Mulwala and it was his job to test new powder batches. I'll ask him when we next talk if I remember. He's a bit hard to catch up with these days as his bullet making business has really taken off in demand plus his travels around Oz / Overseas visiting competition shoots.

I would think that would have been used for the batch sample testing.

It's been a couple / few years since he left and Ammo was never mentioned so I'm not even sure if Mulwala NSW Facility has anything to do with that side of things. He has described to me in detail all the processes involved in making ADI Powders right from the specific type of Wood Pulp imported from Europe and it's that product that has the biggest effect on variations between powder batches.

I have a feeling that the other factory in Victoria from memory near a Defense Force Facility might be involved.

The biggest pity was he was never even able to obtain any powder direct from the factory. Bit hard to do something with a 1,000kg Bulk Bag.... :)

G'day All,
The test facility at ADI is for QC purposes to ensure batch to batch consistancy, not for load data development. All development work, for our DD, is a function of DSTO, who may recommend results for consideration, but manufacture sticks to NATO guidelines. All data in our civilian handloading books is a result of the likes of US powder makers, bullet makers such as Hornady and Sierra, and skilled individuals such as Nick Harvey etc. Must be fun though, Cheers.

Edit, Just to clarify I'm talking about a test tunnel at Benalla. It was in use about 3 years ago.

Glad we have ADI powder. I did wonder about the load testing. I'd like to see the tests done in ADI brass where possible. 223/308. It would make sense to me anyway to it if you could. But if the don't do any load testing here it would be a bit hard.

Yeah, that comparison chart is in the back of the ADI manual. Not all are identical though. AR2208 = Varget, AR2206H = H4895 etc.. but a few of the others are listed by approx burn rates to withing 5% of eachother. I know for sure the IMR 4895 is not as close to H4895 (AR2206H) as the table makes out.

What would they be doing other than testing ammo?

Am I sensing a conspiracy theory here?

I gotta say I find it hard to believe ADI dont do their own powder/load testing. Makes no sense to me.

Waste of time and resources if you have it contracted for one of your clients to do it for you as part of a supply deal.
