Adler bubbafication

Post by juststarting » 01 Jul 2017, 2:10 am

G'morning all

So it is happening, I am going full retard and turning Adler into dedicated bubbasluganator3000, because I can.

Barrel chopped. Next, rail and a red dot... After that I will be accepting suggestions and $ permitting adding that crap on, because, well, why not. Should be fun.

On that note, I have never reloaded for shotgun, I have questions.

(N.B. I'll be getting the Lee 7/8 OZ slug mold (#90282) and it will be a dedicated slug gun).

Question #1:
Are all shotgun primers created equal? If I were to go to my local shotgun club and grab a bucket of shells, can I just deprime them and use any shotgun primer?

I know there are some purists here, but with centre fire for example, I use/used CCI, Federal and Winchester and never had an issue with any one of them, so really, I don't care about the brand (until proven wrong). But I am unclear whether it's all the same or some are larger/smaller/for some purpose and not other, etc? Does it matter more on the shell then the primer, maybe?

Question #2:
Which powder should I be getting, something commonly available and reasonably cheap?

Thanks :)

The cheapest way is to buy cheap target loads and remove the shot which you melt down and cast into slugs then put it back together. Not all hulls are suitable for reloading.

Folding stock?

Shotgun shells are too cheap to bother reloading them. 250 shells are about $90, or less on special. Open them up and put whatever you like in them. 250 1oz loads gives you about 7kg of lead shot. And 10kg of shot is only about $90 anyway.

I was actually considering recycling target loads, (tripod and bladeracer). Seems like a good and an easy way to start.

Why chop the Barrel? 20" a touch too long or do you need to remove the choke threads for slugs? Are there no cylinder chokes available to fit?

Not having a go -just interested

Different brands of shotgun primers cause different pressure. Some times by 1500 psi.

There are also two sizes of primers. Some brands of shotgun hulls need the bigger primer to fit properly.

What brand of press are you looking at?

laser?
you don't want to miss.

bubbafication success can be measured by actually selling the masterpiece on abusedguns.com.au for more than what it cost to put together.

it would be worth the $25 just to see it there

Ive got the adler Tacticool - mounted red dot - no worries if your using bird shot with small amounts of powder but when I used the good old Winchester buck shot, glass reflector flew off the gun... sad days for this old boy

I would look at the rem870 forend adapter. If you are going for tactical, there are some really sweet forends available with inbuilt lights, lasers, rails and all sorts of tacticool trinkets.

Both oldbloke and myself use that press, works a treat and hard to beat for the price. Also the mob that make the Russian slug molds make expanded powder bushings for it too.

Dobbed in

Yes, I must have loaded 2k rounds with mine over the years. Amazing for just plastic and aluminium.

If you want you can buy a Lee loader version. But tbh I don't see the point given you are one of these blokes who waste s**t loads of pb.

OB, I do love the Lee Classic Loader concepts in a post apocalyptic kind of way... But press is the way to go for me. Just makes everything easier I think. I'll start with rebuilding target loads first. But press is certainly on the card in the near future.

Don't do a classic lee loader set! I use it for .303 and it's a pain in the arse after 50 rnds! I can't see you being satisfied with it anyway haha

I wasn't recommending classic lee loader Just saying its an option. Very slow to load with. I stared out with one that was given to me, but quickly moved to the loadall. (plastic.fantastic. )
