Glock 10 mm Auto Loads - AP100

Post by Bayan Dundee » 10 Jul 2017, 12:12 pm

Just wondering if anyone out there is experienced enough to be able to help me with a reasonable start point for reloading 150/155 grain jacketed bullets in 10 mm auto for a Glock. No listing on ADI site, only AP70 (200fps lower then what can be achieved), contacted them and they gave me a start load of 8.2 grains, seems very low given that you can load 40 S&W to that point and 41AE to 9.2 grains. I have no chronograph and very few cases, tend to lose nearly all of them, so won't really be able to work up a load easily from a very low start point. Firearm is for rural use and is used in the control of feral pigs in thick country, need as much velocity as I can safely squeeze out of it.US powder sites have some very good loads, mostly using slower powders then AP100, availability and transport costs puts these loads out, only AP100 thanks

I've got nothing for AP100 in the 10mm cause it's a bit slow, I run 5.9 of AP70 behind a 180gr Hornady XTP. If you're seeking velocity then switch to AP70 or AP50 cause while AP100 may work it's not ideal.

All of the info and data that I have looked at from the States is centered around Bluedot, AA9,Longshot and 800x being the preferred powders for velocity loading, even the slowest one, 800x, is around the same speed as AP 100 and is the powder used by Underwood in their loads to get a 155 doing 1500 fps in a glock, mine has a 6" barrel and thought a slower powder would give me more velocity and less pressure

What are the 150/155gr projectiles you're using? I'll see if I can get them locally and work with you on developing a load. Sounds like you have a G40 which is a very nice pistol, I have the G40 MOS with a DeltaPoint Pro along with a Kimber Target II. Quickload indicates that 9gr of AP100 pushing a 155gr Hornady XTP produces 1256fps which is about as fast as you'll get with a margin for safety.

I have some Hornady XTP and some Speer Gold Dots coming, have some fired cases and am only new to reloading. Pistol is a Glock 40 MOS but unfortunately delivery has been delayed and will now be another several weeks away, hoping to get some ammo organised before it arrives, none available locally. when I have a useful load worked out, then i expect that I will just stick with that. This was some data in the states I found (no ADI) AA9 is the one to look at

Given this new information, forget AP100 and get some AP70 and slap 5.9grs behind a 180Gr XTP lit by a CCI300 primer. All these components should be readily available and produce enough energy to drop a bear so pigs won't be a problem.

after shooting pigs with many different handguns over the last 25 years, have come to the realisation that a larger calibre and heavier bullet weight makes little difference, the key is simply velocity, would even consider going down to 135 gn if I can't get enough out of 150's. Seems that expansion and energy release is better at a higher velocity. Big, heavy, slower bullets are just hole punches. Will check availability of powders when next in town, have a feeling that AP70 is much harder to come by up here, supply and demand, we are at the end of the line. Recoil and control for follow up shots would be better with a lighter bullet as well.

thanks for your help, looking like I'm getting pushed towards AP70, will use up all my 150/155 first then will go to 135 bullet weight to better suit the faster powder. Shame there is only such a small amount of loads from ADI, they are only there because of the US loading using Hogdon Universal ( AP70 ), Factory loads for 40 S&W with 115 gn bullets get the same velocity (1400), might be easier and cheaper to just load and shoot 40, wont have to worry about case availability then as well.;
Just a quick question, is there any free load calculators out there that will give me some approximate info on bullet weight/ charge weight/ velocity without paying for something like Quickload, really only have one load to work out, and when sorted will just stick to that anyway
