Antique reloading equipment

Post by Jwizz » 03 Aug 2017, 6:09 am

Hi people.
I live in NSW and do not have a firearms license.

I have a father inlaw who live in QLD who is an avid hunter and collector.

I was thinking of trying to get a nice .36 ball mold to match up with an antiquate revolver he has. maybe craft up a nice wooden box to store it all in.
What are the rule regarding the ball mold? is it something you need to be licensed to own/by?
If so would me finding one locally I like and paying for it here then getting the dealer to ship it to his local dealer in QLD be an option?
a quick e-bay showed some in the states would importing one be too much of a head ache?

I hope all that makes sense.
Thanks for your time

It's just a casting mould. No licence required and you can post it direct to him yourself.

The only time dealers need to be involved is with actual firearms and with energetic items like loaded ammunition, powder and primers. Inert objects don't come into it, except in WA but, you know, they're a bunch of weirdos anyway! ;)

No license required.

You could post it as normal.

On the contents description just say "casting mold", which is what it is.

Leave off any words that might get some uninformed postal worker excited

Doing otherwise would get you an "random" additional security screening no doubt

I've got a metal pin in my leg that sets off the detectors at the airport so I have to have to have a scan afterwards.

I get an amazing amount of that 'random' additional screening after the bomb and drug detection guys have watched me get pulled to the side and wanded
