I think I have a bit of a plan now what I will do is find some 150gr Nos part pills and load a minimum load using 55gr of AR2209.
fit it with a good recoil pad to it and add a bit of weigh to the stock.
That load will be around 2781fps
Going by a recoil calculator with a 8lb rifle the recoil will be 18.99 ftlbf
What do you all think?

Probably still heavier than factory .308 ammo, but bearable for hunting.
More than I'd enjoy shooting much off a bench though.

The stock design plays a huge role in perceived recoil.
My M91/30 is painful to shoot more than a few dozen rounds, and that's only making around 15ft/lbs of recoil energy.

If you have a look at the ADI data, most starting loads are well over 50g, with just couple of exceptions. So 41gr is very light.

I load 100 gn sierras on 56 grains of 2208 and the recoil is not too bad

For the purpose of clarification. After asking about reduced (light) loads received this in 2014.

Also this is in the ADI manual page 31. You can load below the recommended starting load, just not too far below.
