BM2 seems to be one of preferred powders in the 223. Ended settling on 25gr BM2 and 50gr Z-max in the Weatherby. It’s not super fast. But it is just a hunting load. Does what I need it to do.

The ADI manual is a bit all over the place with loads for a 55 gr pill. Some of the max load for one bullet are min loads for another. I pulled a buffalo River ADI/OSA round one of the GameKings I have the BlitzKings as well and the gave the same reading over the Chrono anyway the powder I would bet my left nut on was 8208 and it was about 23.6 grns The reasons for thinking it was the 8208 apart from looking the same was that the amount also nearly was what I would expect for the speed. I should recreate the load with my powder and see if it perform the same to verify. I don't know why they don't just put it on the box like Hornady.

I have a bit of Benchmark 1 to use up and have found a load for a 55gn projectile from a previous ADI edition. New edition stops using BM 1 at 53gn projectiles and switches to BM 2. Anyone loadIng BM1 and 55gn projectiles in their .223?

Getting really bloody awesome results with Hornady 60gr SP projies and 8208 powder. under 1/3 inch with a 65c load, good enough for me...not. But it is my favourite cheaper load so far.

I think I am going to try some BM8208 soon. Most seem to be getting great results with it.

8208 for the win with .223, everything from 60 to 73gr'ers like it in my rifle, 55gr is a bit iffy but haven't done much development

One of the guys at my former club did the same, then contacted ADI and confirmed it was 8208.

The 55gr loads in ADI's data are obviously dependent on load and projectile length. The lower powder loads are for the NTX (copper) projectiles that are longer than their lead equivalents but loaded to the same length, which = reduced chamber volume and higher pressures for the same load.

The 55gr SPR SP (Speer Soft Point) data is a good place to start, as the Speer and Sierra SPs are almost identical. The 55gr Barnes Triple Shock is over .150" longer, hence the reduced charge: http://www.jbmballistics.com/ballistics ... gths.shtml

it makes sense them using the 8208 as it measures volumetrically much better than other powders so they will get a much more consistent factory load.

ADI also claims it's one of the more consistent batch powders, so that also makes sense for a factory load.

I'm in the process of load development. I have a weatherby vanguard series 2 and new to centrefire shooting.
It is very interesting reading others experiences. It's encouraging to aim (No punn intended) for best sub MOA I can get.

Weatherby Vanguard .223 24" sporter barrel
Sierra Super Roo 55gr SP
WSR primer
AR2207 20.2gr.
12mm 3 shot groups @ 100m

AR2207 is fast burning, so a little slower out of the muzzle. My calculation is that I'm just sub-3000 fps. The rifle is 20 years old and I've put over 9,000 rounds through it. Probably 7,000 rounds using AR2207 (1 × 4kg container and around 10 x 500g bottles). I tried W748 (not bad, but much more cents per load) and BM1 (I never found a good load for my rifle, tried .2 gr increments). I found the Hornady Spire 55 gr soft point gave the most consistent grouping. The Sierras are a close second. Nosler soft points were terrible and Winchester ok.

Hornady Z-max 40gr with SR4759 / Blue Dot give great quiet fox and rabbit rounds.

My groups have recently opened up and I've either worn the barrel or getting long term fouling. I'm picking up a Weatherby Vanguard 20" varmint barrel this week to replace it. Looking forward to a shorter and heavier barrel for spotlighting. I'll also get a good bore cleaner to see if I can remove some copper and get a little more use out of my trusted rifle. Amazing for a "budget" rifle.

Don't overlook AR2207.
