I have a few collet die mandrel due to fing with them. Broken decapperes ect. Anyway when I purchased new ones I noticed once I was sent and undersized mandrel .3030 (despite lots of talking with them) They are not worth sending back they only cost $9. Any way the proper size of them should be .3055 None of the ones I have are that diameter mostly.3045. You could make one up yourself or get someone to make one up without decapper really easy. I would think.

I think this is where I will take it. I'll probably order 2 more 303 mandrels (I am fairly certain I will f-up the first one) and start grinding it down. Will update this thread when I get around to it.

I've been looking for 7.62x54R (Mosin Nagant) Lee Collet die and of course they don't exist. When I shoot it, I shoot it a lot, so I don't like using FL die, because there is a bit of runout and life expectancy of those cases diminishes every time it's stretched and trimmed.

I like the experiment, and I love collet dies, but can't you just neck size in the FLS die?

I’m using a 303 collet die with mine. Will measure the mandrel as I’ve not seen any neck tension issues with Sierra .311 174gr smks. Might have just got lucky with my brass having thicker case necks

You can neck size in the FLS die by removing the ex pander but you only get the one size and it is pretty tight. The neck dies are good as the are cheap the mandrels readily available so you can experiment with them. Lots of people also adjust how much of the neck is squished in the Lee neck collet die as well.

Possibly... I tested with Hornady 174gr .3105; and few pulled surplus projectiles from Chinese, Russian and I suspect Yugo cartridges. Using PPU brass. All with same tension issues while using the original mandrel and better tension with 308 mandrel.

Actually, I think it may have been you who suggested 303 collect originally :) So that was excellent.

I'll need to watch some videos on use of FL die for neck sizing...

I haven't done it myself but on a cartridge with a bit of taper I think you just back the die out a bit. Doesn't really work with straight body cases though.

I just saw this again and thought you might be able to get the 308 neck sizer to work. If you drilled a few washers so the case fitted just through so the shell holder was like it was thicker engaging the clasp later around the correct size mandrel
