Leaving brass out for months at a time.

Post by bawoog » 01 Jan 2014, 9:13 am

Hi guys,

I'm slowly getting together a little reloading bench worth of stuff and for brass I have a few stacked containers so I can organise them by how much they're used.

Is leaving brass out like that for a few months ok though?

It occurred to be after buying a pack of brass which had a moisture capsule thing in it, maybe leaving it out for ages is no good?

Suggestions?

The brass will tarnish a little.

It won't rust away to nothing though.

Those silicon sachets last for ages. I use them in my cutlery draws and fishing gear and other things to keep them from rusting.

Stick one in each draw of brass and it'll keep them good I reckon.

Yep, it will tarnish from being left out.

Just make sure you're rotating your brass properly and you shouldn't have a problem. If it's used and resized, cleaned etc. every month or two you wouldn't have any problems.

I've stored brass that's been fully prepped except for priming for up to 6 months with no ill effect. As long as it's stored away from moisture you should be right

Sounds right to me.

If you're really concerned it would only be a matter of doing something as simple as ziplock bagging them with a silicon bead capsule inside.

Problem solved.
