So I had never actually tried a Trailboss load in my Howa Mini 20inch barrel and the lightest projectile I tried was a 40gr ZMax. My Howa mini is fair less picky when it comes to loads compared to my Weatherby 223.

This target in at 63 metres ( that where my target is at back of house) the first group I shot was the middle top target with the 35gr Vmax with Trailboss. At 100 I would expect that to drop another inch or so an open abit the target circles are approx 1 inch. I then tried both the Vmax and Nosler at 26gr AR2206H. Both groups pretty similar. But the Nosler and cheaper. I think the Nosler even come in bulk 250 packs where as the Vmax are $40 per 100 from memory.

I then tried my my first reduced load with AR2206h. Probably went slightly low at 19gr first go. But as the target shows there was a fair POI (point of impact) shift. I think I'll stick with the Trailboss for reduced loads. Next time I'll try them at 100 metres and Magneto speed the velocites. I'll also see how the 40gr Zmax go with Trailboss.

You can get 22 cal 40 grain ZMax in 500 packs for 18 cents each. Hard to find a better more frangable bullet for the price. They should work well at the low speeds you are getting, the flat base works in your favour too.

Hi Cooper, that's a good indication there.
The VMax and the Varmageddon result would suggest that perhaps I need to push them a bit harder. And maybe I'm a shyte shot as well.

Is there a way of determining how much faster my 24" would push a similar load than a 20"?

Not exactly but a guestimate would be about 100-150fps

Some interesting reading for you to get a ball park on this:
https://rifleshooter.com/2015/12/223-re ... -6-inches/

My 223rem pest rifle is 18" barrel. With a 50gn Zmax, BM8208 will shoot sub 1/2MOA groups at 3150fps, Zmax will shoot approx 1MOA groups at 1850fps. The Trailboss load sighted 1"high at 70m gives you a 3" point and shoot kill zone out to a little over 100m but start dropping fast from 120m.

As a comparison, a 22wrm shoots 40gn bullets at about 1800fps, from memory. The trail boss load recoils and reports like a 22wrm but can deliver a highly frangible 50gn bullet faster than a more sold 40gn bullet out of the WRM. Make for very effective and quiet pest control rifle.

I Magneto speed tested the 35gr projectiles in my Howa mini. The 26gr loads was only doing 3300fps. I was expecting a bit closer to 3500fps. Maybe a 24 inch barrel would be closer to 3500fps.

The Trailboss loads of 8.1gr with the 35gr projectile were doing 2200fps which is about where I expected. I'll try them in my 24 inch barrel Weatherby and I'm interested to see what the speed difference is and what the accuracy is like.
