Leupold adjustable rear scope mount system

Post by batter » 12 Feb 2014, 12:50 pm

G'day,

Don't know the proper name for it but I'm sure some are familiar with the rear Leupold mount for drilled/tapped receivers? Others maybe the same but Leupold is the one I know, anyway...

The mount I'm talking about has a screw on the left and right gripping the middle of the scope ring. You can move them both left/right to change the angle of the scope slightly.

What's the point though, don't you always want to scope mounted straight and then use the scopes adjustments for zeroing in?

Seems like having the rear ring anything but dead straight is going to just place stress on the scope tube?

Thanks.

According to Leupold...

The Leupold steel standard bases and rings are the most versatile of any mounting system we offer. The rear ring is secured by windage adjustment screws, allowing the scope's internal adjustments to be reserved for precise sight-in. Additionally, shims can be used for gross elevation adjustment, reserving the scope's elevation adjustment for bullet drop compensation dial applications.

Interesting, how much windage adjustment do you really need though?

Anyone shoot sidewards through a hurricane often?
