Homemade offset sights

Hi,

Has anyone tried some homemade offset sights?

Just an idea in my head at this stage, but with a non-contoured barrel it would seem you could pretty easily slip 2 rings down a barrel with a notch sticking up on each for the sights.

Would cost bugger all. Do the job you think?

Adjusting them could be an issue, but other than that for limited range they should be accurate enough.

Same as 45° offset sights on a picatinny rail really.

For a few bucks, why not give it a go.

I think you're giving "proper" iron sights a little too much credit.

No reason I can see that half decent home page ones won't do the same job.

A bit of filing needed here or there to sight them in maybe, but that's standard practice for a lot of factory sights any way.

I had the idea to get a sheet metal place to cut them for me as well.

Basically would look like a large diamond ring. Two of them that would slip up the barrel if that makes sense...

Have a mate who does that kind of work. Gotta get hold of him and will give it a go

It does.

The trick will just be securing the sliding rings and keeping them straight once you've got them sighted.

Not knocking it, if you've got a mate that will do em up for you great. Just a problem you'll need to address.

If they're rings you could drill and tap them and use small brass grub screws to secure them. The brass is softer than your steel barrel so it shouldn't damage the steel - however if it is painted... Or you could use 620 loctite or similar to secure them as well.

I wouldn't want to go drilling/tapping anything as this is just a bit of a fun project.

Loctite though would be fine. Thanks for the suggestions.
