Leupold vx freedom or Bushnell 3500?

Post by Kelsey Cooter » 19 Jul 2018, 10:13 am

Going to buy a new 3-9x40. Currently i only own vx2s and a couple of vx1. What does everyone think of the new vx freedom? I can get a bushnell 3500 on special for $50 less then the freedom at the moment. And the local tells me itll be alround better. Anyone got or tried both? Anything you like or hate about either?

Mate I have a couple of Bushnell 3500, 3-9x40 on .223 and 4-14x40 on .308.
Mate I like them, they are clear, and in my opinion good value for money. No doubt there are better out there and of course there will be many and varied opinions.

Cheers mate, does the 3-9 have a pretty decent amount of eye relief? Its only going on a 308, but Iv found im not a real big fan of the vortex a mate of mine has, purely because it has such small eye relief

Not a huge amount of eye relief mate. I am fairly long so end up pretty close to scope so not a big issue for me.
May be a problem in some combinations but I find it more than satisfactory on my Tikka.

I've got both the freedom 3-9x40 (on my 243) and the 3500 3-9x40 (on my 223) and I'll pick the freedom over the 3500 every day of the week, the freedom is a lot better than the 3500 when shooting at night everything is a lot brighter and clearer...….actually I liked the freedom so much I went and bought another one and put it on my 308

yet to miss mate, can complain with that :D using 165gr gamekings, the 3500 is good as well but in lower light or night time you notice the difference and the freedom performs a lot better

what price did you find the Freedom at? I paid $355 for the first one I bought but after doing a bit of looking I picked the second one up for $309

Yes 309 plus post is the cheapest I've seen the freedom. And Magnum sports has the 3500's on a good special at the moment

Depending on how long you intend to keep it, I'd be inclined to the Leupold. Lifetime, transferable warranty. I recently had a 25year old scope repaired under warranty - no charge. A colleague is having a 10year old repaired under warranty. Can't go wrong with back-up like that.

I’ve used a mates Bushy 3500 and quite liked it, the trophy extremes are great value as well, can’t comment on the VX Freedom but generally you can’t go wrong with Leupold gear.
Zies Terra 3-9 are a good little scope too, in that same price bracket, I’ve got one on the 22 and another in 4-12 on the 243, I enjoy using them but would I’d be happy with the other brands/models too, they’d all do the job well I’m sure.
