Advice on scope

Post by gilmc » 18 Sep 2018, 4:38 pm

Hi all. I'm about to replace the scope on my Tikka T3x lite in .223. The rifle is used for hunting daytime and night spotlighting. Currently have a Leupold VX1 3-12x40 which I have never liked, previously used Tasco 6x40 and never had issues but would like to get a variable in the 40 series.

Looking at spending up to $500, any advice?

Thanks

How much $$ do you want for the Leupold?

not sure how much its worth, bought it in 2010, no scratches and still has the original box and manual. Didn't think about selling it so I'll have to find out how much its worth and get back to you.

Mate I run a Bushnell Elite 3500 3-9x40 on my Tikka .223, some may not like Bushnell but I have had no troubles whatsoever with it. Also have one on my .308 but in 4-12x40. Will fit into your budget mate.

I just grabbed a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 online for $88+ postage, I'm impressed with it considering the price. Also been impressed with the glass on an Article Fox I bought for $75. I tend to buy 'budget', but it might be a couple of other options to look at

Thanks I looked at Bushnell but know very little about them, just thought that being cheap might mean that they are not very good. So I’m happy to try one for that price.

Nikon's PROSTAFF line of scopes has some of the best light transmission of any scope out there. This PROSTAFF 7 2.5-10x50 BDC will more then do what you are asking of your scope and it's $80 off. You will love the big 50mm objective and the 30mm tube. The BDC reticle will let you dial in your rifle, scope, and ammo using Spot On for excellent downrange accuracy. Can't beat the No Fault Warranty either.

Bushnell AR series 4.5 - 18 for $159. Good amount of magnification for the money, just find the retical a bit heavy. Better quality than your old Tasco.

Thanks everyone. After doing a lot of research and reading reviews I have narrowed it down to 3.

The NIKON P-223 3-9x40 ($239),
PROSTAFF 4-12x40 Matte Mildot ($350) or
BUSHNELL ELITE 3500 3-9X40 ($379).

if its as good as my M-308 id say you made a good choice.
Tikka t3x super lite stainless .308/Nikon M-308 4-16x42 BDC-800.
Tikka T3X varmint stainless 22-250/Bushnell Trophy Extreme 6-24x50.
Lithgow LA101 22LR/bushnell rimfire 3-12x40
Adler a110 12Ga 20" tactical.
