Will I be better off with steel rings on a 308

I'm looking at rings for my new howa varmint 308. I've pretty well narrowed it down to leupold standard rings with the standard 2 piece base, leupold lrw rings with the qrw 2piece bases or the talley lightweight ring base combination.
I'm not a fan of having a 1 piece rail or base on it as it makes for less room for loading rounds in the internal mag.
obviously weight isn't a worry as its a varmint barrel, I just like the style of the talleys.
Am I better off going with steel rings and bases?

Talleys are fine mate, you won't have any issues with them, especially on a 308

Does a Pic rail cover up any of the port on a Howa?

I agree that the steel Talley rings and bases will suit you. I would only use aluminium mounts if I was trying to make weight for a competition rifle.
