Scope for LA101

Post by RangaWal » 30 Dec 2018, 11:34 pm

Looking at picking up a LA101 in 22LR for hunting bunnies/foxes etc out to 200m max. Anyone able to recommend a good mid-range scope (~$500)?

Cant go wrong with a bushnell AR-223 either 3x12 or 4x18

I have ghe 3x12 and it works for both range and bunnies.

Adjustable paralax too

The Bushnell AR 18x is around $150 in a popular Brisbane gun shop. I don't think you will find anything much better for under $500.

For shooting targets to 200m I'd agree with the Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40.
But I wouldn't be shooting at live targets further than about 70m, and closer would be even better.

Thanks everyone - dunno what I was thinking (or drinking!) when I typed 200m, I agree 100m is plenty for a 22.

Thinking either the Nikon EFR 3-9x40, Leupold VX Freedom Rimfire 3-9x40 or apparently the Bushnell AR Optics are pretty good for the money.

I'm certainly not a troll. I posted the same question on AHN and they recommended the Leupold and Nikon, which apparently are a league above the Bushnell recommended (but I'm pretty green with scopes, hence the reason for the questions), plus I'm still considering the Bushnell mentioned here, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.

I think he just meant that you're still researching the options.

All good. Was just a strange response to me where you said bushnell seemed like good value - which is what others on here had already said - but I imagine you’ve cut and pasted from both forums...

I have a Leupold VX-R 3-9X40 on mine, love it, also have a spotlight on it for the bunnies :) Maybe a bit overkill, lifetime warranty and fantastic glass. A little more than you want to spend. Leupold you can't loose. Not sure on their entry level stuff though. Best to go and have a look through some in your budget. Don't just look in sunlight though, take it outside and look into dark areas, shade under trees. Also check out Ozzie reviews you tube page. He has done a heap of honest reviews on scopes.

Here is mine for reference

Check out the Bushnell Rimfire series, 3-9x40 / 6-18x40 rather then the AR series. The rimfire version comes with turrets for 1/4 MOA, 22LR & 17HMR with the only drawback being that they are not fixed parallax and while ok for hunting it's not ideal having to dial in the parallax if trying to get a quick shot off. That said, I've got several of these and as yet no issues. Priced from $150-$225 there's plenty of coin left for a decent set of rings.

Why is the rimfire Bushnell $250 and the AR $150. They look like a very similar scope, turrets look identical.
