Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 or Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50

Post by Ittiazua » 17 May 2019, 4:50 pm

I'm trying to decide between one of these two scopes ( Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 or Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50). The scope will be mounted on an AR15 platform, and for right now I'll just be using it for target shooting. I'm not really interested in an illuminated reticle, and will be getting the second focal plane model.
Does anyone have experience with these scopes, or have a convincing reason why one is better than the other? I know that Vortex has a GREAT warranty.
Thanks in advance.

I have used the Nightforce quite often and there is little to find fault with it. Very nice optics, very good in low light and fantastic turrets. If the Vortex is better then it must be very good indeed.

I use Nightforce when I want to "reach out and touch things"
If it's any help a quick google search found this https://bestgunscope.com/sniper-rifle-optics/

Interesting review, he said the NXS has a maximum magnification of 25x. I am not sure what happened to the 32x and 42x.

He also said he liked the 30mm tube because the narrower tube, than a 1 inch, was stronger and less obtrusive. Perhaps he needed to proof his article before posting.

I would have thought that given one scope is quite highly priced, and the other quite cheap, the only similarity they would share would possibly be they use the same size rings. If they were comparable, you would think Nightforce would be out of business pretty quickly.
