if you visit a local range during a longer range event you will most likely find a lot of Sightron scope range in use, they have been making target shooting scopes for a long time and have runs on the board. I just mounted an S-Tac 3-16 for 100-400m duties and I'm very happy with optics and the $$$.

Do people think Return to zero is worth the extra Money? Was planning to mark settings on the turrets anyway.

Both are Japanese brands - but most ppl I’ve spoken to assume sightron is made in the USA...
Nikko has been around since the 50’s and sightron was started in the 90’s.

Return to zero is a great function if you use it...for shooting difference charge weights or projectiles where you know the differences, sighting in on still days vs windy, quick and fast elevation changes without guessing a holdover...yeah - I’d rather have it but not a game changer.

If the Nikko Sterling is under $250 you could try it but I assume it is closer to $1,000. Don't buy it is my advice.

The Sightons in Big Sky 3 are not bad and quite OK to use in competition.

If I had $1,500 to spend I would get a used but in good condition Nightforce BR 12 - 42x or a Nightfoce 8 - 32x for around $1,000.

I thought most of Nikko Stirling (cheap) scopes were made in China... maybe you confusing nikko Stirling with Nikon..... different brands.

As said before sightron is really decent glass for the price

I'm just starting out, so will share this with multiple rifles from air, 22lr to 6.5mm CF. from 10m to 500m.

I have a 24x scope but with my eyes it's not great and I think my air rifle (steyr) and 22lr (anschutz) are capable of more than the 1moa dot I can just make out at x24, so I was hoping for something x35+ zoom. I probably "should" spend $3k+ to match the rifles, but I'm a bit limited at the moment, and too scared to pay large amounts for 2nd hand scopes when I don't know the previous owners.

Thanks all who have replied so far, very helpful comments.

Some of the top end nikko scopes are reviewing pretty good these days - establishment was in Jap...but now?...yeah...same as many.

I share your reluctance to pay a lot of $$$ for sh scopes, without seeing them op, but I bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago to not only pay a grand for a second hand scope, but for a bushnell scope of all brands...this was a hard pill to swallow, as almost all my other scopes are Leupold bar some $99 dusk dawn bushnells on rimfires, etc - which are a bit crap.
So it was not without at least some worry for me, to drop the coin on a bushnell tactical 4.5-30...thankfully, I’m simply amazed at the bushnell glass on this particular model and the available magnification range is perfect for my needs...in fact, I’d rate the glass on this scope equal to or perhaps a tiny bit better than a vx3...which I wasn’t expecting.

If it were me, I’d listen to SC re a second hand NF...there’s a reason Their prices stay solid on used.
