Cheap PARD NV007 NV008 alternative

Post by ramshackle » 06 Sep 2019, 11:10 am

Lots of offers like this on eBay now. Under $150. Same 'no manual, blinding IR laser' combo product from some Chinese factory or another. Closer to true value for this equipment versus the PARDs at $850-$1300(?) for the LRF version. You shoot using the image on the screen (or use rubber eyepiece (?) looks like). The reticle is from the glass scope.

Some eBay feedback on the top product:

✔️ Works as advertised
✔️ as ordered, fast delivery
❌ The item never arrived! I was given a bogus tracking number. Dodgey as f!
✔️ A+++ Super fast shipping and good product
✔️ item arrived in good condition cheers.
✔️ Very happy
✔️ 5 star
✔️ Great thanks

BTW, I posted this on the UK based night vision forum http://www.nightvisionforumuk.com. It was not welcome. Turns out that forum is being run purely for the benefit of their "sponsors", who are using the forum as a marketing tool for the products they sell. The post was deleted and I was instantly banned.

I'd already annoyed the forum management by suggesting that the products they're selling are less than safe, and then I posted the links above, and it was all too much for them to bear.

Unfortunately the online shooting forum scene is either plagued by commercial interests or poor moderation (cue Stix with his snide comments).

Ah...i was actually gping to type "welcome back mate... :D ", & thought you'd learn to not insult others on your return...

But then i got to the bottom & was delighted to see your ridiculous spoilt brat behaviour is still flourishing & that nothings changed...!!!

Seeing how you return immediately projecting your issues onto others & enciting an less than favourable reaction, so you can blame others for your filthy behaviour, i figured id indulge you...!!

So, what hsppened to the maginificent other forum that you allegedly moderate with many more members whom are without chips on their shoulders like most of us...??? :unknown:

Yes thats right...!!!...thats what you said...!!!...so dont come in here isolating me in an attempt to have others ignore the fact you labelled most here as not being worthy of mingling with...!!!!!!

Well its a fair assumption in guessing youve done full circle & been put in your place by other forums too...??!!!??...you know...given you complain about the moderation here being the same as everywhere---THAT BY THE WAY brings attention to the above point of you moderating some other forum sent from angels...
So you're bagging this forum & its runnings, & by doing so bagging yourself...!!!...  ...& why...???...whats that--because of adverts you say...!!??? :wtf: ...that forum is no good because of commercialism...

Ah fuk you crack me up...!!!

So come on...gloves are on mate...!!
Fire up all your internet dictionaries & thesaurus' & lets get to it...!!!

And dont worry...i wont use those tools...ill just use your behaviour to help bring attention to you making a dik of yourself...you know...like you've just done with this post, & the one before it...!!!!

Oh...welcome back...!!... :D
The man who knows everything, doesnt really know everything...he's just stopped learning...

That looks like a bulky piece of crap that will not hold up to recoil or use in the bush.

Good enough for rimfire recoil in all likelihood.

It probably is crappy, like most Chinese stuff. The bits and pieces are also probably not that far removed from what you'll find in the PARD products. From my POV, the worst part about this setup is the light from the monitor that will shine on your face and give you away to the prey. Maybe there's a way to turn it down? Put a towel over it? LOL.

Someone should buy this just to see if it works.

Seems virtually identical to a setup I tried myself. It works fine for seeing in the dark if that's your criteria. Hopeless for hunting or for moving around at night though as the screen destroys your night vision. For me, it works best if you bait a location where you can just sit and watch over it. But setting up a light over a baited location and shooting without this gadget works better still.

I certainly couldn't use it to look for game, waving it around you instantly lose any sense of direction. I found I still needed to find the game with a light before I could put the NV onto them.

Thanks Bladeracer, that's the feedback I was interested in. It's disorienting at night. How does that differ from staring down the eyepiece of a NV007/8? I suppose with those units, you still have one good eye!

I can't offer a comparison to other units, only what I've used and owned. I know lots of people that swear by these NV devices, but they don't work for me, outside of a few very specific situations, as I mentioned. I have some other NV monocular and binoculars and all have given me the same results, terrific, and impressive, for turning night into day, hopeless for moving around, finding game, seeing the backdrop behind your target, and for identifying animals well enough to shoot them. I also mounted a 90-degree viewer so I could mount a camera but I didn't find the NV useful enough to play with it much. I still drag it out  just to have a look around without a rifle though.

Hmmm, thanks again Bladeracer. I'm in a bit of a quandary now. I have a small pest animal (rabbit) problem I want to eradicate on my 10 acre property, but I won't be shooting more than a handful of nights per year, and I don't therefore want to invest too much money. My options appear to be:

  1. A cheap setup like above, or a NV007, coupled with a cheap-yet-good scope like a TAC VECTOR 10X4
  2. A NV008 (~$900)
  3. A NV008 LRF (~$1500) seems like overkill
  4. Waiting for a full moon and trying to shoot without NV assistance, just using a glass scope

Any thoughts, anyone?

Rabbits tend to hang fairly close to their burrows so NV should work well. Just sit and watch over that area and drop them with subsonic .22LR at close range. I've put out a dead 'roo with a light hung in a tree above it for a few nights, the foxes don't seem to be bothered by the light so can be taken without NV.

Good advice, Bladeracer. I'll try one of these ↑ cheap setups and see how I go. I don't think there is a vast difference between the PARD units and these DIY-style units.
  1. They both have IR laser torches based on VCSEL emitters, so that's a wash.
  2. They both have IR digital cameras, so that's a wash.
  3. One allows viewing through and eyepiece, the other on a screen, is the only big distinction, that, and a $400+ price difference.
  4. Oh, and good marketing on PARD's part.

Aliexpress is now awash with reasonably good $100 mil dot scopes that track well. Here's a typical review: https://youtu.be/w9NVL9hoND0

Good enough for my purposes ...

I thought Pard night vision was made in China too.

For $150 could you take a punt and let us know how it performs?

I can see the same scope for sale on Oz EBay for $56. Get one and tell us what you think. Should be good enough for some bunnies.
