Running out of windage when sighting scope

Post by Nathanthezoologist » 10 Nov 2019, 8:05 pm

I have had a few issues with a new Howa 1500 which include loose action screws courtesy of incomplete staff at my local gun shop.

I tried to sight the scope in again on the weekend and ran out of windage. I flipped the rings and ran out of windage in the other direction. Is it likely a problem with the rings or possibly the scope?

The scope is second hand and off of a different gun

Rifle: Howa 1500 .223
Stock: wooden thumb hole don't know which one
MDT picatinny Rail
Rings: don't know what sort, has 3 screws on each side
Scope: Bushnell Trophy Xtreme 6-24x50

You could try a pic rail with 10 MOA cant or buy some Burris Signiture Zee rings where you can swap out the inserts to cant the scope to suit your rifle.

It sounds like the problem is related to the rings as it changes when you change the orientation of the rings. That Bushnell scope is a pretty reliable scope. I would be checking the rings carefully and most likely trying another set of rings not of the same type as you currently have.

I've ordered a new set of rings so hopefully they will make a difference

My new rings have arrived and it appears my problems are solved. I adjusted the windage back to the centre of the range before fitting the new scope and bore sighting I only have to move about 10 clicks unlike the old rings that were about 300 clicks
