Intended use was as expected, taking foxes in the dark without requiring a light.
The issue is that it blinds you with glare so if you need to move around you need a light anyway, and in darkness there is no orientation to know where the horizon is so I can't find foxes by panning it around except by pure luck, and there is no way of knowing what is in the background of your target. Basically, swing a light around to spot the foxes, then kill the light and switch to NV once you know where they are. If you set a bait to attract them so you only need to watch a specific place then it'd probably be fine, but no better than hanging a white light over the bait. I also got a much bigger illuminator for it that cost more than the camera kit did, so it's interesting to be able to see in the dark, just totally impractical for shooting in the dark, for me at least.
Getting opinions from forums will never tell you whether it'll work for you so do what I did, buy it and try it yourself, then you'll know. Or at least borrow some NV gear first and try that out. I have several NV monoculars as well, and the old Call of Duty NV Goggles from years ago - they were my first NV experience

The latest CoD has a new unit that should be way better than the original.
