A pity you are not able to try the Nightforce. I have a few Leupold VX3 and they are not bad at all. One is a 8.5 to 25 long range which has been an awesome hunting scope. One of the members,Ziad is selling one. Perhaps you should make him an offer. I wouldn't mind buying it myself.

Hi mate,
I have the Howa 223Rem SS Varmitter heavy barrel, mounted in the MDT Oryx Stock and have mounted the NF 12-42×56 Precision scope on her. It is an awesome combination but very heavy, I am getting under 1 MOA at the 300m range and 1/2 MOA groupings from 100 - 200m range, the only mistake I made was choosing the wrong reticle, the ND-2PP there's no markings to help with holdover if required, but none the less this is a great vermin setup.

Do you have a NF BR scope with the NP-2DD retical? The one with two horizontal lines and one short vertical line and a dot in the centre? You can use the gap between the centre dot and the horizontal and vertical lines for windage and elevation holds. There is also an additional dot underneath the vertical line to give you another reference. I would say this is an excellent retical for a hunter.

Yeah mate,it is a pity, they are a good scope going by reviews and what I see.
Tomorrow,I have to go to the big smoke(Specialist appointment) will go to the three gunshops I know of and have a look at some different scopes, just to get an idea.

Thanks mate,
I am very happy with the .223Rem, but I would like to sell her and get the new Weatherby Vanguard HSP in the 240 Weatherby Magnum, and use the NF Scope on her, as I would like to achieve the 1000m target range, and the .223Rem just doesn't have the Legs.
If anyone might be interested in the Howa M1500, SS Heavy Varmit Barrel, mounted on the MDT Oryx Stock for $1700 please let me know, I live WA.
Good hunting

Hi dont know if you made a decision yet but of it was me out of your options I would get the 3.5-10x50 vx3i but i got good eyes and thats enough for me to accurately shoot at 300m in low light without hash marks or mil dot. That price range turrets are not always aaccurate, vx3i turrets are but they are a bit mushy. But...that scope is super clear and bright, good contrast, easy to get behind and see through quickly, not too heavy. may struggle with other cheaper brands at at that magnification getting behind and seeing through it varminting. i dont like going too high in magnification. Unless its a high end scope aka nightforce, swaro etc or just a target rifle

Hi Franks
I have looked at a few scopes and a few stood out in clarity and weight, plus the turrets sounded good in rotating them, the Leupold 3.5-10x50 where I was looking had sold out and the price had gone up,looked through a Hawke Endurance WA 4-16x50 with the 223/308 BDC rectile,I liked that,so that has made my short list as well as the Leupold and the Meopta Optika 6,but that was heavy, but still :unknown:
I also was looking online at a few 2nd hand ones, but don't know about that, just a bit dubious about it.
Catch ya.
Cheers

I think the price hike of new leupolds is really really going to hurt them - the vx3’s are now at the same price point as some of the top end euro optics and gives other manufacturers an advantage...$2200 for a leppy vx3i with a few options vs $1850 for a fully optioned nightforce SHV...
Tikka .260 (Z5 5x25/52)
Steyr Pro Varmint .223 - VX 3

ATA 686 U/O 12g & Baikal S/S 12g.

hey ozzielee , i use a vx3 4.5-14 x40 lupy on my 222 ,head shot grasshoppers out past 200 with that setup , i really like it ,and quick target aqasition at 25 and 50 yards doing feild rifle comps is good too . i tried a 6-18 lupy which was good for stationary distance shooting , but not as good for walking around as the lower power . on a knockabout 223 sauer i kept it german and bought a zeiss terra 4-12x42 ,good scope for the money , and like the meopta has the european large eye box that focuses faster than a loopy. but the smaller loopy eye box is better for bolt clearance . which can be a problem on old mausers and bruno's. hope some of this info is of some use, out of your listed scopes the 4-12 meopta would be my pick. they are very good scopes

No mate, it’s NIOA and the dollar and...?
When I went into shop to buy one a couple weeks ago, I was quoted $1800 as per the book sent to shops for years 19/20 (they showed me) then they rang to order and price went to $2200 - as well as lengthy wait time. I told a friend who bought one in 95 for $900 brand new, it’s probably gone up in value lol

OzzieLee,
if you are going the Weaver /Piccatinny rail route i have a set of burris Zee signature rings which are surplus and you can have them if your interested.
These have the polymer inserts which means you dont scratch your scope tube.

Please PM me if interested and i will give you a price - new there are well over $100.

[quote="ozzielee303"]Hi
First time poster here,so please be gentle with me :P

Just bought myself a (layby but all paid for) a Howa Mini action SS 223 and I am just going to use it mainly to shoot foxes, odd rabbit and feral cats and dogs,I am looking at these scopes and would like your honest opinion on my selection please.
Right we have:
Meopta Optika 6 3-18x56
Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50
Nikon Prostaff 7 4-16x50
Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x50
Meopta Meopro 4-12x50
Burris Fullfield E1 6.5-20x50
Zero Tech Trace 3-18x50
HAWKE 3-12X56 VANTAGE 30mm WIDE ANGLE ILLUMINATED RETICLE

So what would you choose?
TIA

Oz- Easy choice, Meopta Optika6 3-18x50. A ton of scope, very nice glass, great in low light ( personal experience), and loaded with features you will appreciate for your intended uses. I have 3 Optika6's now and couldn't be more thrilled. Some friends have ordered them as well but are waiting on delivery. One of the nice things about the Optika6 is that you can dial in your drops to your ballistic profile using Strelok Pro. Easy and accurate!
