I dont recall the exact model, but it was a leupold approximately the same price but didnt power out to 32x - i liked the clarity of what I was seeing through the nxs at full zoom and in the lower light (dusk). I think the 56mm had a lot to do with it. I'm sure there are comprehensive reviews on the difference. I just wanted the extra magnification.

Your a bastard SC. These words have been haunting me since I bought my Z5 and today, with work demanding I relocate for a couple of days, I’ve managed to look at a SHV and a NXS. I’m sending my wife to yours, she will be armed with a broom and a hockey stick and an invoice for a NF. Can’t say you didnt bring it on yourself.

Noooo...I’m saying the NF is better than the vx3. I’m still away at moment so cannot put side by side...with z5.
As per the start of this post - I got completely blind sided by the clarity of the Z5 / just blown away - so much so, I did something I NEVER do and bought it on the spot. Trust me when I say - I usually over research value until both my heads hurt but this was very much, something special and for once, I was in a position where I could buy without too many ramifications and yes - I recalled yours and others saying swamp ski was up there...
But - the Z5 is a perfect light weight hunting scope. And I planned on Re arranging my hunters to accomodate this z5 by moving on a vx2 - yes, lucky position to be in.

Now, with my work pushing me to work 300klms away, gave me a rare chance to also look at a NF, at the only dealer in the state and who knows how long before I could get back to same shop. With my bush elite 6500 at NIOA being fixed I knew I’d be looking for a more target orientated scope and again, a vx3 was my go to, works perfect for me, line of scopes... but again - the price increase meant other avenues needed to be at least, explored...and SC had me desperately wondering re NF. So looking via NF SHV 5.5-22 vs vx3 6.5-20 - the NF certainly picked up leaf edges in shadows better...and outright clarity appeared at that time of day (4.30pm) to favour NF. But, I kind of felt rushed at shop, so wasn’t messing to much with settings, but the NF sold me. Particularly with the MOAR and tiny illumination reticle in middle - as cross is quite fine.
So the missus car tyres can wait 6 months. The power bill can go into collection, my knee pain pills will have to be Panadol, the bank repayments? Ah, screw them lol. just need the local shop to now play ball with the moar illuminated reticle for same price as another shop and it will come home with me tomorrow. And yes - I’ll be keen to put z5 vs NF vs VX3 together, same day, same conditions...but I think I know deep down which will be no 1...

I have shot my Z3 and a mate's NF at the range back to back...I wasn't looking to evaluate scopes at the time so didn't pay attention to which NF it was and there wasn't a huge difference between the two. That NF has taken game in a number of countries so no doubt it is a damn good scope overall, and I can see myself with an ATACR on a rifle in the (distant) future at some point.

That said after thinking lots about scopes recently I reckon we all get carried away with really small differences, these modern scopes are bloody brilliant. I reminded myself of this by looking through an older Nikko on a Howa I inherited. It's just like looking through a Swaro...if you put a bottle of water between the Swaro and it's target :D

From my learnings...I think there are small steps in difference between the $ range. Ie you might not notice much of a difference between $300 and $600 and you might not notice the slight but definitive improvements from Say $600-$1000 and it would be even harder to see the better glass between $1k and $1500 and well, your splitting hairs from $2k and up...but each step is a graduation and the difference between $300 and $2k is bloody significant - but that depends on what you want from a scope as well...if you want a basic “tool” to just do the job of knocking over a few ferals and nothing more - is there really anything to be gained by going higher end? I’d say...Not really...

I also have a S&B PM2 which has fantastic glass but I think my NF scopes compare favourably. I also used a Khales 50x in competition before I purchased a NF Competition Series scope. Not knocking Khales which has premium glass, I prefer the NF glass.

I find I do not get the eye fatigue I experience with other budget glass like a 36x Weaver or Leupold.

Tassie, can your Mrs clean the windows when she pops over, mine has put that job on my to do list. And since she brought her broom.....

Interesting you touch on eye fatigue - those were the words I was looking for when looking via the Swarovski...as in, my eye seemed to relax...was very hard to describe but that’s the words.

Windows? Ha. Wife cleans windows, then 2 Akita’s come along and think - that’s a new taste, 10 mins later...looks like someone threw a freakin drool bubble.
