To much scope.?

Post by CrackThump » 11 Jul 2020, 5:14 pm

I got sick of waiting for a vortex diamondback for my .22 to shoot precision and benchrest...so today I gave in to pressure from my local guy who understands my hatred for having spare cash in my pocket hahaha.

Enter my new Vortex Strike Eagle. #LoveAtFirstSight.

5-25 x 56.. to much scope for a .22 ? Or just right ? Lol.. My Minister for Finance is NOT amused

You can't have too much anything with shooting, every time you use it it will just feel nicer and be more enjoyable than a more basic budget scope.
You have enhanced all of the time that you will spend shooting precision bench from this point forward, the only question is did you enhance it enough? Are there any upgrade options worth considering?

Sweet scope though, I have a Nikko Sterling 10-50 x 60 on my bench 22, its only a basic rifle, Savage B22, so the scope cost almost as much. It's a pleasure to shoot though.

Can you have too much scope on a rimfire for benchrest.....doubt it.

The biggest problem I see is that it is FFP so you will lose the very fine precision sighting.

For benchrest 50/100/200 Yards/Metres I use a March 36-55x52mm EP-Zoom with a very fine crosshair and 1/16th dot reticle mounted on a 1965 Brno Model 2 and can hold my own against some very expensive custom target rifles. Usually in the top 1/3 competitors at state/national shoots. Your missus would freek at the cost well over twice yours.

Love shooting rimfire, it's a challenge and provides great practice for long range centrefire.

On my back up 243 I have a variable 56 mm scope by vortex. It’s sort of ruined the balance for the user but u can see everything with it So I spose u should just use it and find out if it’s suitable

I had a weaver T36 when i was shooting BR competition. For a 22 for hunting though a good 1-6x24 is a better choice and you can even shoot them on the run.

I think 25x is a good place to start. What kind of competition rimfire are you looking at?

As other have said, more magnification can be beneficial and I use a 36x on my rimfire.

For competition shooting, why not. On my LA101 I have a 6 x 42 Schmidt and Bender. Cause I like it and it works for me. If what you have works for you then go for it.

Yes. Works well for my kind of hunting. I will admit I am not a long range hunter.
