Querying a Sabre Accent 3x9x40 on a 308

Post by crusher060 » 08 Dec 2020, 6:30 pm

Hi Guys

I purchased a new Howa 308 gun and scope package a while ago for $795 but haven't shot it much yet. The guy at the gun shop put a Sabre Accent 3x9x40 on it. I have done some on line searching about the scope and there is a lot of references to it as being an air rifle scope only. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this scope on a bigger calibre rifle such as the 308.

My concern is it won't handle it and I may be better off replacing the scope. I have just purchased a new Leupold CSD 3.5x10x40 off a mate and thinking of putting that on it. Any opinions appreciated

If its a scope for air rifles it will handle a .308. Spring piston air rifles pound a scope so much standard scopes soon fail.

as animal said, same reason I run an airgun scope on my 270 and 22 (the two most often in the ute) cos they can take a beating without losing zero.

Okay thanks guys, that's comforting to know. I was concerned it would fall to bits as they are a cheap scope. Just realised its actually a 4x12x40 too cheers

Crusher060,
Very pleased that you raised this subject :) as it is often the adjustment mechanism that goes haywire first. In my experience anyway. Tempted to give one a try on the strength of that :)
