Saw this a while back. Some very good info but in the end you buy what you can afford and combine it with what type of shooting you will mostly use it for.

I compared a few scopes in store once, used their back room for low light comparisons, hands down took the cheapest of the scopes I compared, the clarity and light transmission was worlds above the others. at the end of the day, dont buy anything if you havent compared it to the other products on the market.

Yes the comparison that Ken and Bushy did was a good one at that. From memory they had a Leupold VX3, Meopta Meopro, Zeiss Terra and Swaro Z3

If the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 MC was in the mix (been discontinued way before that test was conducted) it would have knocked them all into a cocked hat!! Priced around $500 (when they came out) they punched well above their weight and were a superb low light scope. I used them for years to pick out deer in the dark - when any bino would have given up 15 minutes earlier.

And reportedly made by Meopta.

Those early Conquest scopes certainly do punch above their original price class. As do the very early so called 'pre Monarch' Nikon scopes.
Optics and build quality in both these lines are excellent.
Both ranges of scopes were an effort by both companies to establish themselves in the US mid price scope market and both over delivered.
And No, the conquest line was not made by Meopta.
Zeiss made some components in Germany, some in the US and bought some from other suppliers and the whole was assembled and packaged in the US as it it is well known that a label "made in USA" appeals greatly to particular variants of social conditioning.

The Zeiss Conquest glass was made by Meopta up until mid 20teens. Says a lot about Meopta glass for a company like Zeiss to put it in their products, no matter where it was assembled. Cabela's had Meopta build all the Instinct products they sold and a few other high-end manufacturers use more than just Meopta glass. I guess when you known for your glass quality, others want to capitalize.
