Zenison 4x40 scope

Post by Oldbloke » 06 Oct 2021, 2:12 pm

I've had this for at least 40years. I think I bought it second hand.
Was on my 30.30 and brno m2. Now on my grandsons brno m2.

Still a dam good clear scope.

Anyone know a bit of history about them?

Just being curious. :D

Can't help at all, other than they were a budget Japanese scope with good glass and reliable zero, and I've had one on a Ruger 308 for about the same time. No need to change it either, Cheers.

I’ve had a few on several rimfires and they are good, honest scopes. They came from an era when Japanese scope makers, usually the LOW plant ( Light optical works) would make anyone a scope with whatever name you want printed on it.

Tell me, if the Japs could make good reliable & cheap scopes 40 years ago, why can't the Chinese make them?

The Japanese had a good rep for quality by the 80s didn't they? Just thinking China isn't at that point yet

What exercises my mind about the Zenison, is the reliability of the adjustments. How did they do that? A Leupold of mine had to be returned after every two months of fullbore, for the adjustments to be fixed. That was when I shot F-Class in '02. So what was the difference between my Leupold and the Zenison, for the latter to keep working?

You would think that after 50-60 years companies would have it worked out. No doubt they dont GAF about the customer.

It is a specialist Deer hunting scope,,,,,,, made in Japan.
Zenison = Venison on the table.

But seriously,,,,,, after WW 2 and the Japanese started copying & building stuff that was exported to many countries,,,, it was mostly crap.
Hence the original saying "made in Japan"

But now that saying belongs to China in an even bigger way.

Most stuff out of Japan these days is good quality stuff.
