I did it with many rifles over the past years, because I'm left handed.
Obviously not necessary since left handed rifles became more abundant.
Now getting older, I suffer from oldtimers disease (intimitant memory loss combined with selective hearing loss) ...... I think I remember some scopes from the old days that had more Elevation adjustment than Windage, so turning the Scope made a difference there, if a lot of elevation was required.

Good idea, and they're so readily available too...
Far more sensible just turning the scope 90-degrees in the mount.

I had an idea it might've been, but other comments seemed to completely miss the fact that this does work, and is very helpful for a left-hander that is just completely cacky with their right hand, just as I am with my left.

I generally use my left hand to make my elevation adjustments because my right wrist and thumb don't move to allow me to turn the turret, I have to grip it and move my whole arm, and my shoulder doesn't allow my right hand to go up that high anyway (some rifles I can't raise my hand enough to operate the bolt handle from the shoulder). Unfortunately the scopes I prefer are not conducive to being rotated 90-degrees. I've seen some old (like WW1) scopes that had the turrets set up for left-handed use.

I have turned scopes myself for other reasons.
