This is one of the situations I consider it useful, but it makes more sense to me to avoid FFP scopes altogether and not worry about trying to make the reticle usable.
I prefer the versatility of being able to adjust the reticle to suit my situation rather than being forced to work with a fixed reticle.
Yesterday I was shooting .22LR at 300m and 500yd. At 300m the drop I calculated to be 25 minutes. The fourth dot on my SFP BDC reticle is an 11.4 minute holdover. So I wound the zoom back to 9-power, doubling the BDC to 22.8 minutes, and held on the target. It's a couple minutes low on the target as expected. If it mattered I could also dial up 2.5 minutes, but I wasn't trying to shoot well, just confirming the hold before moving out to 500yd.

At 500yd I calculated the drop would be (on a different rifle with a different zero) 80MoA, so I wound the zoom back to 4.5-power, quadrupling the top of the duplex post to 61.6MoA, then dialed up 19 minutes on the turret.

On the Ruger American I simply dialed up 70 minutes as it is zeroed at 200m (the Precision is zeroed at 182m) at the bottom of the turret with the adjustable mount giving me the full 105 minutes of elevation in the turret. The Precision only has the OEM 30-minute rail.
