Infiray FH 25 R problem

Post by Tilb004 » 23 Apr 2023, 4:55 pm

Gday good people .

I have a infiray FH 25 R thermal monocular , Great bit of kit but the range finder is a joke .
Does anyone else have one ?
Are you having issues with the range finder ?

I shot a fox last night at about what i thought was 200m .
I couldn't range the fox so i ranged the trees that was close to it .
Made the shot walked out to find i had got a clean kill .
When at the fox i tried to range back to my car and still couldn't get a range but could range trees behind at 400m .
Very frustrating coz at night we all know it's hard to judge distances .

Is there any good lrf thermal monoculars out there that have good ranging abilities at a similar price range .

Cheers

Actually they also come out during the day. You just have to learn how to hunt in WA.

I'd love to spend all day out there but too many jobs on the farm .

They come out at night like clock work .

I find them more randomly wandering at night, in daylight they tend to follow a patrol route like clockwork, though not always every day. If I see them prowling along a creek bank at 0645 today, there's a very good chance I'll see them again around there at that same time on other days. They do similar in the evenings but I find the mornings are easier for me. They seem to do a large loop around us following the creek to the south then coming back up another creek to the north. I don't often see them doing it in the other direction, but it's possible they change it according to the wind direction. When I was a kid I would do the fox patrol just on sun-up, then spend the day shooting other things, then do another fox patrol back along the same route. I never got into shooting at night or from vehicles.
